Editorial Standards & Ethics

Caribbean360 is an independent regional news platform covering the Caribbean and its diaspora. This page explains how we report, how we verify what we publish, how we use technology, and how to hold us to account. Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial and advertising interests.

How we structure a story — the Six-Card format

Every news article is built in our Six-Card format so readers can see not just what happened, but how it fits together and why it matters:

  • The Gist — a plain-language summary of the story.
  • What Happened — the verified facts.
  • The Impact — who and what it affects.
  • The Pulse — context and reaction.
  • Perspectives — differing viewpoints, where relevant.
  • The C360 View — our clearly-labelled analysis.

Sourcing and verification — the TruthScore

Every article carries a TruthScore, a transparent 0–100 reliability rating that reflects factuality, the quality of the sources, originality, balance of perspective, transparency, and Caribbean relevance. We weight sources by how close they sit to the primary record:

  • Tier 1 — governments, the UN, CARICOM, the OECS, courts and academia.
  • Tier 2 — established wire services and leading regional outlets.
  • Tier 3 — credible local outlets and Caribbean360 original reporting.
  • Tier 4 — social media and unverified material, used only with clear caveats.

Where a story relies on a single source or on claims we could not independently verify, we say so in the article.

Our use of artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence as a tool to help with research, drafting, translation and summarisation. AI never publishes on its own. Every article is reviewed, edited and approved by a human editor before it goes live, and our Editor-in-Chief is responsible for what we publish.

Articles produced with significant AI assistance are published under the “Caribbean360 Editorial” byline, carry a visible AI-assisted indication, and note that they were reviewed by a named editor. We do not present AI-generated work as the personal reporting of an individual journalist.

Authorship and accountability

Articles carry a byline identifying who wrote or edited them, and our editorial team is led by Editor-in-Chief Ricky Browne. Contributed and opinion pieces are clearly identified as such and reflect the views of their authors, not of Caribbean360.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and record the change. You can see every correction we have issued on our Corrections & Clarifications page. To request a correction, email [email protected] with the article and the specific issue.

Independence and funding

Caribbean360 is supported by reader subscriptions and advertising. Advertising and sponsored content are kept separate from our newsroom and are clearly labelled. Commercial relationships do not influence our editorial judgement.
