  Hurricane Bertha continues to move northwest

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, July 4, 2008 - Tropical Depression #2 which formed just before daybreak Thursday July 3 EST has intensified to become the first Atlantic Hurricane of the season.

The Tropical Storm was upgraded to Hurricane Bertha by the National Hurricane Centre on Thursday July 3 at 11am EST.

It poses no immediate threat to the Caribbean.

At 5am Tuesday, Bertha was estimated to be near 21.4 north and 53.3 west and is moving toward the northwest near 10 mph (17 km/hr) with maximum sustained winds near 120 mph (195 km/hr) with higher gusts.
